Volunteer to coach youth sports

6-8 Week Commitment. Lifetime of Impact!  

Hyland Hills is a member of the National Alliance for Youth Sports. We have implemented the NAYS' program to provide valuable information on the aspects of coaching youth sports, which today's volunteers need to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for all the youngsters on their teams. 

Ages: 16 and older


HOW TO BECOME A HYLAND HILLS VOLUNTEER COACH

Step 1: Complete & Submit Application 

Applications can be submitted via email to Maddie at miverson@hylandhills.gov and Octavia at opowelle@hylandhills.gov. Applications can also be submitted in person at Hyland Hills Sports Center call (303) 650-7500 to confirm a drop off time.

Step 2: Complete Background Check 

After you submit your volunteer application & signed paperwork, the Hyland Hills Athletics Department will send you a link to complete your background check from a Paycom email address (no fees for you). 

Background checks are required every two years to volunteer for youth sports.

Step 3: Concussion Training 

Every head and assistant coach must complete the National Federation of State High School Associations’ (NFHS) concussion training clinic (or other approved training) before they can coach this season at any capacity. At the completion of the training, you will have a certificate that you can either print out and provide at the coaches meeting or save and email to Maddie at miverson@hylandhills.gov and Octavia at opowell@hylandhills.gov

✓ Scroll down and select Concussion in Sports (FREE) or type "Concussion" in the search bar

✓ Order course (You will need to sign in/register/create an account.)

✓ At the completion of the training, you will have a certificate that you can either print out and provide at the coaches meeting or save and email to the sport coordinators

✓ There is no fee to take the concussion clinic.

✓ All head coach certifications must be complete and provided to the Hyland Hills Athletic Department prior to the start of the season you are coaching

 

Concussion training is required once per year to volunteer for youth sports.

 

Step 4: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Training

Every head and assistant coach must complete the National Federation of State High School Associations’ (NFHS) Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention course before they can coach this season at any capacity. At the completion of the training, you will have a certificate that you can either print out and provide at the coaches meeting or save and email to Maddie at miverson@hylandhills.gov and Octavia at opowell@hylandhills.gov

Mental Health training is required once per year to volunteer for youth sports.

 

Step 5: State of Colorado Mandatory Reporter Training

Under the Colorado Safer Youth Sports Act (Senate Bill 24-113) every head and assistant coach must complete the Mandatory Reporter course through the Colorado Child Welfare Training System before they can coach this season at any capacity. This training will take about two hours to complete. Your progress will not be saved, so plan to complete the training in one sitting.

✓ At the completion of the training, you will have a certificate that you can either print out and provide at the coaches meeting or save and email to the sport coordinators. If you do not save it on completion, you will have to retake the ours to receive a new certificate

✓ There is no fee to take the training

 

Mandatory Reporter training is required once per year to volunteer for youth sports.

 

 

Once all steps are completed, Hyland Hills Sports Department Staff will contact you with more information.
